This is a fabulous large factory clock from the 1960's manufactured by the Communist East German company Elfema (Elektro-Feinmechanik Mittweida). The body is bakelite, in very good condition with very few blemishes, no major scratches, and no cracks. The dish shaped steel face, featuring the fabulous elfema logo, has a few minor marks as expected for its age, but nothing distracting.
Many German industrial clock designs are based upon the iconic Swiss Federal Railways clocks of the 1940's designed by Hans Hilfiker (1901-93), featuring a simple pared down but graphically strong clock face, influenced by the teachings at the Bauhaus and the traditions of the Modernist Movement.
Now fitted with a super reliable, high torque and quiet German quartz movement, for trouble free accurate timekeeping. (1 AA battery per year). Ready for immediate use. Guaranteed for two years. 1 AA battery supplied.
