Moscow Olympics logo design

Original and rare Soviet lithographic poster illustrating the Olympic village in Moscow. The iconic Soviet Olympic logo, now widely reproduced on Retro-Cool T-shirts and holdalls, is superimposed on the architectural illustration.

The 1980 Moscow Olympic was boycotted by about 60 nations led by the USA in protest at the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, and is commonly known by some Americans as the 'Forgotten Games'. The Soviets retaliated by boycotting the 1984 Los Angeles games.

The poster is an excellent condition, has never been folded and without pinholes or sellotape marks. There are a few minor creases and wear at the edges but nothing of any significance.

The text roughly translates as:-

MOSCOW OLYMPICS

OLYMPIC VILLAGE

THE OLYMPIC VILLAGE WILL HAVE ALL THE NECESSARY CONSTRUCTIONS AND PREMISES FOR THE RECEPTION OF 12 THOUSAND SPORTSMEN AND OFFICIALS FROM 130-140 COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD.
